BLOOMS LOVE

Irish-born songwriter Louise Cunnane, better known as Blooms, has had a steady flow of so-melancholy-they're-beautiful pop songs going since early 2014. Most of those made it into her debut EP, IF, a collection of lusty, guilt-ridden paeans which painted her as an ice-veined chanteuse worth keeping an eye on, but it's new track 'Love' which should cement the Hackney artist's place in the public eye - and the playlists of anyone who digs BANKS for that matter. Co-produced by Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith and Eliza Doolittle affiliate, P*nut, 'Love' feels like an altogether more sturdy and immediately hooky work compared to some of Blooms' more cinematic efforts; yet with a chorus reflecting on her tumultuous personal life around the time of writing IF, there's still plenty of haunted memories simmering below the poppier final gloss. - DC
